MMA Nostra: Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Werdum

Fedor "The Last Emperor" Emilianenko vs. Fabricio "Vai Cavalo" Werdum

The greatest ever MMA fighter is finally beaten...

Coming into the fight everyone looked past Werdum, a multiple Abu Dhabi BJJ champion, because of how Fedor has dealt with similar calibre competition, in the past (notably Minotauro Nogueira) totally dominating; and wanting a Heavyweight title match-up between Fedor and Alistair Overeem.

The fight started with good momentum in stand-up, Werdum was game for the fight and came in swinging on Fedor and looked to be walking into another quick win for The Last Emperor, especially after a pacey countered first exchange that put Werdum down. However willing he was to draw guard he defininately felt the leather on the way down, his compusoure afterwards speaks volumes of his resolve under pressure and sheer depth in grappling, his opposition highlighting every strength due to his own renowned quality...

So as Werdum dropped Fedor pounced with hammer-punch ground & pound, Werdum genuinely looked rocked and invited the hasty attack to end the fight, however Fedor has never been known as an impulsive fighter, a fantastic calculating machine over 30+ fights... but Emilianenko in almost rashly trying to finish the fight left too many limbs flailing, Werdum grabbed an arm and slipped over a triangle choke from the bottom. The rest is history, Fedor tried with a couple solid escapes twisting out, but Fabricio held it tight, Fedors shoulder looked close to popping even, so he quickly had to choose between tapping or going to sleep.

He's lost none of his heritrage as a fighter but Fedor doesn't have the 'Empirical' leverage anymore. If there is any justice in MMA M-1 Global will FINALLY back-off and let Heavyweight MMA take its course.

Congratulaions to Werdum, amazing win.
